Redwoods Elopement | Devan + Alex | Navarro, California
When Devan + Alex first locked eyes, they never could have imagined the beautiful adventure they were about to begin together. They certainly wouldn't have guessed that someday they'd be saying "I doโ among Californiaโs Redwood Giants! But on a radiant February day, accompanied only by their officiant and me, witnessed only by the towering redwood friends, they celebrated the beginning of their new life together as husband and wife. And this Mendocino wedding photographer is beyond thrilled she landed an invite to document it all!
Devan had sent me her dried flower bouquet in the mail because she didnโt think it would survive the flight, so when I arrived at their Airbnb the first thing she did was open up the box and pinned burlap around it with her grandmotherโs broach. Then, I hopped in their car with them and we drove about 15 minutes up hwy 128, until we came to the most beautiful Redwood Grove!
After exchanging their โI do'sโ, we headed to Navarro Point for some photos with the majestic ocean as our backdrop.
Devan + Alex told me the thing they were most looking forward to seeing in their wedding gallery was photos of the two of them in the forest. And I believe without a doubt we captured exactly that! And as they exchanged vows, I couldn't help but share in their joy as I clicked away with my camera! Congratulations, Devan + Alex on your new life together!

Intimate Wedding | Mara + Devin | Forest Fairytale Wedding | Mendocino
Nothing beats the view of the bay from Cypress Grove in Mendocino. Except of course Mara + Devin exchanging vows overlooking that bay. These two lovers had to postpone their wedding due to the pandemic, holding out for a year and a half because they wanted to be surrounded by their family on their wedding day.
This whole day was pure MAGIC. I am still swooning over the beautiful florals, Maraโs and the way that Devin was so emotional when he saw her during their first look.
These two said โI doโ at Cypress Grove and then met their family back at Crown Hall in Mendocino for a big โol dance party. The hall was decorated with 162 bud vases full of gorgeous flowers. Each guest received their own vintage goblet to take home as a party favor. It was a magical Mid Summerโs Eve wedding!

Mendocino Coast Bridal Session Kenzie + Carter | Mendocino California Intimate Wedding Photographer
She describes it as โnothing fancy, just loveโ and I think that is perfect for the times we are in. The way you feel about your person doesnโt change just because you canโt have a big fancy wedding. The way you love each other is all that truly matters.
They met in highschool and it was love at first sight for Kenzie. Their friendship developed over several years and eventually they became a couple. When Kenzie became pregnant at 19, she and Carter decided that whatever life threw their way, they were going to get through it together. Their son was born in January 2019. They knew that their lives together were just beginning and that they were ready to make a forever commitment. In February they had an elopement ceremony with immediate family and a week put their wedding attire back on and took an adventure to the beach with me. There would have been a big party with family and friends sometime in the next month or so but COVID-19 forced them to postpone their plans. Hereโs what Kenzie told me about how she feels right now:
โI am so incredibly lucky to not only call this man my husband, but the most amazing daddy to our son. We canโt wait to grow our family & fall further in love!โ

I was blessed to be able to frolic on the beach with these two one last time before Shelter in Place orders went into effect. We had so much fun and I truly cherish our time together. Thank you for allowing me to document your love Kenzie and Carter. May your love grow stronger and your family flourish!
Ok, now seriously, donโt waste another minute reading, check out the gorgeous moments we were able to create during their bridal session! Whaddya think? Iโd love to hear in the comments!
Mendocino Coast Engagement Session | Lauren + Cameron | Mendocino, California Adventurous Couples Photographer
I met Lauren + Cameron for drinks before their session on a windy saturday in february. Lauren ordered a Moscow Mule and Loaded Nachos and I knew immediately that we were going to make great friends!
โ
While we sipped our drinks, these two told me how they had grown up going to school together. It wasnโt until they were both in college that their love story truly began. He was a firefighter with US Forest Service at the time which meant he was away several weeks at a time during summer months. Despite his long works hours, they fell in love and are engaged to be married later on this year.
The day of our session together, the wind was HOWLING. It was crazy strong and made for some amazing messy hair photographs. When we met at the restaurant, I immediately told Lauren how GORGEOUS her hair is. She replied saying that she was feeling some regrets for leaving it down. I assured her she would not be disappointed by her choice.
After our drinks, we headed to the bluffs above Pudding Creek Beach in Fort Bragg where Lauren + Cameron toasted to their engagement with some wine that Laurenโs mom sent along and then we proceeded to explore the bluffs. One of my favorite things about this location is the cypress grove that towers above the beach. The wind was howling as they sat in the grove and toasted their love story. Laurenโs hair did exactly what I promised it would and made magic happen. If youโre as infatuated with windswept hair, outstanding coastal views and romantic kisses as I am, youโre going to throughly enjoy these two and their untamed love!
What to Wear to Your Engagement Session
โWhat the heck are we supposed to wear?โ I mean, Iโve even asked photographers before my husband and I step in front of the lens. I get it. You want to look goooood while youโre frolicking with me on the beach right? Donโt worry boo, Iโve gotchu! Are you ready for my top 5 tips for choosing the perfect outfit? Ok, then letโs dive right!
Before they even start asking questions about locations or what to expect from me during our engagement session together, couples have one burning question.
Choose Two Outfits
I know what youโre thinking โitโs hard enough to choose one, but TWO OUTFITS? Really Chelsi?โ But hold on a sec because weโre going to make choosing outfits so easy even my 9-year-old could do it! Letโs give you some variety by choosing two different looks okay? Youโre going to want to pull out one dressy outfit and a more laid back option.
BONUS TIP: Weโre probably going to be shooting outdoors far away from the convenience of a restroom, so you may have to change in your car or behind a tree, so I recommend outfits that are easy to get in and out of.
Dress Appropriately for the Location
When choosing outfits, think about what would look good in the location we are shooting in. If weโre going to the beach, youโre going to want to put your toes in the sand, so boots and a parka are out! Considering an urban location? Try wearing something modern or edgy. A leather jacket with a pair of jeans and stilettos perhaps?
Youโve got to Move it
In the infamous words of King Julian from Madagascar, โyouโve got to move it, move itโ.
Seriously though, youโll look your best while wearing something that you are able to move in. If youโre stuck in the same position because you canโt lift your arms or your dress feels too short and youโre afraid your exposing too much leg, you wonโt feel comfortable to use some fun prompts ! And you will feel self conscious the whole time which will ultimately lead to those awkward photos that you are terrified of. This also means that you should wear clothing that fits you perfectly. Nothing too loose or tight.
Choose Neutral Tones
When in doubt choose neutrals, but donโt donโt try to be twinsies with your colors. While I love color, in most cases, thereโs nothing quite like soft and light neutrals in a photograph.
Consider light colors such as whites, creams or pastels.
โMix in other neutrals like denim or leather. I love a leather jacket thrown over a lace dress it's timeless yet edgy at the same time. perfect.
โCoordinate your outfits using colors and textures but please don't be too matchy-matchy. There is nothing more awkward than two people wearing the same exact shirt, unless of course, youโre a cute elderly couple.
Things That Just Donโt Photograph Well
T-shirts that have any logos of insignia, no matter how small. Just say no!
Sweat Suits, tops or bottoms. This includes sweatshirts and sweatpants. This is a total party foul.
Unless weโre going for a dip in the ocean, no board shorts.
Flip Flops. I mean, I love โem but not at a photo session.
Accessories that you should avoid like the plague:
Chains. Anywhere: Belts, Wallets, even around your neck. Nope.
pocket knives or your phone if we can see it sticking out. You arenโt going to call your buddies during a makeout session and you wonโt need your knife either. Leave them in the car!
Absolutely no baseball caps. Hats are okay, but this isnโt a sporting event, so please keep it classy!
Youโre not Kanye, leave your sunglasses at home.
One Final Thought
The clothes you wear to your engagement session should be a reflection of your love story. Please don't overthink your outfit. Just wear what you feel good in. If you would never wear a long flowy dress then don't. The last thing I want is to be photographing the version of you that you think fits perfectly in a box that anyone would put you in. Be true to you and I'll be authentically me, and there will be magically made. Pinky promise!

Jess + Brian | MacCallum House Wedding | Mendocino, California
On the first phone call with Jess I knew that we were meant to be. She was STOKED about her dress because it had pockets. She was thrilled to be planning an intimate wedding on the Mendocino Coast with help from Vanna. My favorite part of our first conversation was that photography was their main priority for their day. Jess wanted to make sure that we would have time for photos of her and Brian that reflected their love story completely. I knew instantly that we were a perfect match!
Jess + Brian found me through Elope Mendocino . On the first phone call with Jess I knew that we were meant to be. She was STOKED about her dress because it had pockets. Jess wanted to make sure that we would have time for photos of her and Brian that reflected their love story completely. I knew instantly that we were a perfect match!
Brian found out that one of Jessโ dream proposal was that a penguin would bring her an engagement ring. Of course, Brian called Monterey Bay Aquarium who immediately told him this wasnโt possible because it wouldnโt be safe for the penguins. So of course, he planned the next best thing, a proposal at the Penguin Exhibit. He took Jess to see the feeding show. When it was over and Jess was about to move on to the next exhibit, she turned around and Brian was on one knee holding her engagement ring.
After this amazing proposal, they contacted Vanna of Elope Mendocino and began to plan their dream wedding in Mendocino with a ceremony on the bluff above Big River Beach with a reception to follow at Maccallum House. Jess was so excited to be marrying Brian and so thankful for each vendor that helped make her day possible. She infused little details into her day, like having each of her girlfriends who couldnโt be at the wedding give her a brooch to put in her bouquet so that she could feel like they were there with her on her big day. Rosa of LR Farm helped with florals and Jessโ vision came to life. Jessโ mom also gave her a handkerchief that had been passed down through generations of brides in her family. I absolutely love it when families share traditions such as these on wedding days. It makes it so special.
When I asked Jess about her favorite part of her wedding day this is what she said:
My favorite part of my wedding day was how much love and happiness was all around us, we had so much fun, everything went pretty perfectly and it was lovely to be able to share this special moment with all our favorite people. Getting to take photos with Chelsi and Brian alone after the ceremony was pretty special too, all of my first and most happy moments were caught in the beautiful pictures she took. And now every time I look at them I'm reliving that feeling and those moments and it makes me so happy.
When I read this, my heart exploded. It is such a privilege to be welcomed into a wedding day and when I can make my couples feel this special, it makes me so happy. This is how I want every single one of my couples to feel after their wedding day is over. If you are here considering me for your wedding day, please make sure to take a look at my entire portfolio and about me section. If there is something that you are drawn to, get in my inbox and letโs make some magic together in 2020!
There are is nothing I could say that would accurately depict the love and joy that surrounded Jess + Brian on their wedding day. So, grab your favorite snack and spend some time looking at their photographs, I promise it will give you all the warm and fuzzies! Ok, letโs go!

Mendocino Bay Overlook Wedding | Mendocino, California Wedding Photographer
When Amy inquired with me to photograph her wedding, she started her email by saying โ Jimmy + I met in prisonโ. Wait what?!? She followed up by saying that she was joking, but not really. Amy + Jimmy are both correction officers in Vacaville, California and they met while at work. I knew from our first interaction over email that we were a perfect match. I love sarcasm and Amy + Jimmy have THE BEST sense of humor. When Jimmy showed up for their engagement session, the first thing he said was โweโre not going to have to go through the โact naturallyโ thing again are we?โ I was like โwoah buddy, the only awkwardness coming from this photo session will be me making a complete fool of myself.โ He was satisfied with that and of course, I was the most awkward of all of us. Flashforward to their wedding day, they decided to tie the knot at the Mendocino By Overlook with a reception to follow at their familyโs private residence in Mendocino.

Amyโs Son Ryder taught everyone a line dance at the reception and it was the coolest thing Iโve seen in a long time. This wedding was beautiful and the reception was Poppin. There was a food truck with delicious fish tacos and the most amazing soup dumplings. In lieu of cake, they chose pastries from Mendocino Bakery. When I asked what moment they were both most looking forward to during their day, Amy + Jimmy both said dancing the night away with friends and family. Achievement unlocked you two. Thank you both for inviting me to be part of your beautiful and fun day! I could go on and on about the whole thing, but Iโll let you see for yourselves!
Doreen + Josh | Sea Ranch California Engagement Session | Mendocino Coast Couples Photographer
Doreen was out with her girlfriends visiting an up and coming local restaurant when she spotted Josh from across the room. They started talking to each other but by the end of the night didn't exchange numbers. She left with her friends, disappointed. The next day, as she and another friend were walking to dinner, they ran into each other again! โ The rest is history, but Josh says they're meeting was serendipitous and I couldn't agree more.
I'm a sucker for a good old fashioned love story. Aren't you? If so, you're going to want to keep reading because I'm about to tell you how Doreen & Josh met!

The rest is history, but Josh says they're meeting was serendipitous and I couldn't agree more. Their friend Sammy of Bloomade hired me to follow them around on an adventure in Sea Ranch, California. It was so windy that day, but Doreenโs dress and hair flowed so beautifully in the breeze, none of us could possibly have been upset about it.
Thanks for letting me tag along on your adventure Dorreen and Josh!
