Emotive storytelling for your wedding day

If you believe that each and every sunset is magic, if the redwoods will be your chapel and the ocean your wedding march, if you'd rather experience the moments of your day than stress over perfectly planned details, if you could care less if your dress gets dirty, or your hair a mess then I may be the photographer for your wedding day!

If you'd rather experience the moments of your day than stress over perfectly planned details, if you could care less if your dress gets dirty, or your hair a mess and you think I may be the photographer for you or even if you just think we’d make great friends, we should chat over a cup of coffee or your favorite adult beverage (don’t worry, it can be over Skype if you can’t get to me)!

True love stories are my jam. YOUR love story is the raddest thing I have ever heard, and it deserves to be told in a beautifully authentic way.

Are you ready for this?

Hey It’s Chelsi again!

I am most drawn to photos that are emotionally captivating. Photos that reflect they way you felt during that one scene in your favorite Romcom. Or the lyric from the song that you sing over and over again. I find beauty in the mess. Like the one time that my husband took me on a picnic on the beach and instead of beautiful sunny skies, it rained and we were both soaking wet and snuggled beneath a blanket to keep warm. Even though the weather wasn’t ideal, we still had the best time ever because we realized that cozying up in each other’s arms was exactly what we wanted anyway. There is so much beauty to be found in our normal day to day. But really is there such a thing as normal? I mean, there was nothing normal about the way you found and fell in love with your person. Once you found each other, life’s greatest adventure began. That’s what inspires me. The extraordinary adventure that the two of you have embarked upon and will frolic through together, forever.

Your love story is unique and your photos should be too. I am interested in candid, authentic emotions. You will rarely find me posing my clients and asking them to fake smile or laugh at the camera. I will not ask you to hold your kiss for 20 minutes while I prepare for the perfect shot. Can we say awkward? I focus on capturing real moments in natural light. I want you to giggle, make funny faces, swoon over each other, and I will most likely make a huge fool out of myself to make these things happen naturally. Real, give me all the feels, emotional moments. That's what I am after. Genuine wild moments that tell your love story as it unfolds in front of my camera.

My heart skips a beat for movement in photos, so if we're on the beach, bluff, or in a field I will be asking you to skip, hop, run, twirl, and dance while we listen to your favorite jams on my Bluetooth speaker. We’re going to have so much fun friend!

I go all-in for the adventurous and wildly in love. I am for lovers who are not afraid to let their hair blow in the wind,  who don’t mind if their wedding dress gets dirty, or are down to frolic around in the rain. I live for those unposed, messy, in-between moments.

Are you ready to tell your love story?

Things you should know about me

mendocino california wedding photographer

I like coffee & tequila!

My favorite time of the day is sitting with my husband in the morning, drinking coffee, beautiful light pouring through the window, while my boys play legos at the table.

Most days you can find me sitting on my beach towel reading the latest self help (because I obviously need all I can get) book and watching the boys play in the waves on their boogie boards.

I crave crisp salty air and totally don’t mind a good fog soaked day.

Coffee and Tequila are my drinks of choice, beautiful shadows, authentic emotional photos, and outrageous coastlines all fill my heart to the brim with joy.

California firefighter wife

I’m a firefighter’s wife!

I am firefighter’s wife which means that my three boys and I spend a lot of our time without their dad home. Being married to a firefighter, who spends a lot of time away from home, has taught me to embrace the mess.

I used to stress over an immaculate home, well done makeup, and perfect hair. Now, most days you can find me wearing a messy bun, stressing over whether I am devoting enough time to my kids and their various activities. Often, there are dishes piled in the sink, laundry strewn on the bedroom floors, and beds are rarely made in the morning.

And, here's a shocker, at the end of the day, I may or may  not celebrate with a glass of sparkling wine if we all survived to tell about it. Embracing the mess has been one of the most freeing things I have ever done for myself, no regrets.

Q & A

Where are you located? Do you do weddings other than in Mendocino?

I currently live with my family in Fort Bragg, California. All of my Mendocino & surrounding areas packages serve the immediate Mendocino Coast area. HELL YES, I absolutely do weddings outside of this area. I have jet fuel in my veins and can navigate any airport like a boss. I will happily travel to you for your big day!

We’re kind awkward and shy. Is that a problem?

I haven’t met a client yet, who hasn’t asked this question. Not to worry, I’ve gotcha covered! I have the skills to make you forget I’m even there. Our time together will feel just like you are on a fun, romantic date with your boo thang. Promise!

Will you shoot lgbtq+, LDS, Indian, catholic, ETC weddings?

Absolutely! If it’s a wedding, I’m in. Just tell me where to be with my camera and you’ve got it babe!

How many images will I receive in my gallery?

For couple sessions I I deliver a minimum of 75 high res edited images. For weddings, you can expect a minimum of 50 images per hour of shooting time. So a 4 hour elopement will yield 200+ photographs and a 6 hour intimate wedding at least 300 photographs. I do not put a cap on how many images I deliver. Every couple and wedding is different, but I promise I would leave anything out and you will definitely receive the best of the best from your day!

Can I have the raw files (unedited photos)?

I’m sorry, but no. My editing is part of the service that I provide as well as a large part of my art. It would be like you going to a bakery and instead of receiving a loaf of bread, the chef delivered to raw dough. I’ll deliver all the photos that you will ever want, and if there is something you think is missing, you can totally just ask! You’re trusting me to document your day, so please let me finish the job without asking me for the raws!

How do I pay you?

I require a 50% non-refundable retainer and signed contract at the time of booking. The remainder is due 10 days prior to your wedding or elopement. I can send you an invoice through Honeybook or Paypal.

What if you can’t be at our wedding?

For this to even be an issue, I would have to be either in the hospital or having a family emergency. Heaven forbid if something out of my control were to happen that prevented me from being at your wedding, I would personally ensure a replacement day of photographer whom I trust and whose work you love.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

If you’ve already booked with me, and need to cancel or reschedule , the retainer fee is non-refundable. In order to book your new date, a new retainer will need to be paid. I am totally not trying to gouge you in any way! The reason I do this is because your date is on my calendar, I am counting on the money you have paid me to pay my bills for that month and I’ve likely rejected other sessions for your desired date.

What about the weather? What if it’s windy or raining?

Depending on the forecast for the day, I will more than likely suggest that we just go for it. Most of my couples come from out of the area or I am traveling to them, so rescheduling isn’t usually an option. The weather on the Mendocino Coast can be somewhat unpredictable, but even if it’s windy and cold, it isn’t too bad. Another reason I suggest riding out the weather is because it makes for insanely romantic and beautiful photos. I love capturing authentic emotions, so wind and rain has a way of making those emotions show even more and makes for breathtaking images. Not only that, but isn’t the most romantic thing ever, kissing in the rain? Yeah, that’s’ what I thought!
